Instructional Programs
Our school provides a comprehensive instructional program aligned with LAUSD guidelines, California State Standards, and the LAUSD Instructional Framework, ensuring all students receive high-quality, research-based instruction.
Workshop Approach (Reading & Writing)
We implement the Workshop Model for literacy, a student-centered instructional approach that promotes independence, critical thinking, and strong reading and writing habits. The program includes:
-
Mini-lessons aligned with state standards and LAUSD ELA expectations
-
Independent reading and writing time with individualized teacher conferencing
-
Small-group instruction tailored to student needs
-
Standards-based assessments to monitor progress
-
Alignment with LAUSD’s emphasis on balance, choice, and culturally responsive literacy practices
This approach supports students at all levels and ensures equitable access to rigorous instruction.
Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) – Math
Our math program follows Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI), a research-based approach supported throughout LAUSD. CGI emphasizes:
-
Understanding students’ existing mathematical thinking
-
Encouraging students to explain their reasoning and strategies
-
Building deep conceptual understanding before procedural skills
-
Developing problem-solving abilities using real-world tasks
-
Support for LAUSD’s focus on conceptual mastery, discussion-based math, and equity in mathematics instruction
Through CGI, students learn to communicate mathematically, collaborate with peers, and approach challenges with confidence.
